The first official Fab Lab is born in Cyprus and held a small exhibition in the Art Rooms Gallery. The Fab Lab Cyprus is powered and hosted by ARUCAD Arkin University of Creative Arts and Design. The exhibition, organised by Antony Eddison, dean of the faculty, was a presentation of the possible applications of the technologies and facilities of the Fab Lab.
The Fab Lab at ARUCAD is embedded into the academic curriculum across all degree programmes all of which have a strong focus on interdisciplinary studio work and making. Other associated areas that work alongside the Fab Lab are the Virtual Reality studios and large scale wood and metal workshops and ceramics and glass making facilities. Sculpture is particularly important and the faculty has invested in 6-axis CNC sculpting equipment to create objects in stone, marble and other materials.
